After the creation of PhMl in Cherkassy, the administration and the staff of the secondary school №17, having definite achievments in teaching and studying of Physics and Mathematics, founded school-lyceum №17.

Pupils of the 7th forms have an opportunity to visit classes specializing in Physics, Mathematics, Computer science and English.

Since 2000 on the base of the 5th, the 7th, the 9th, and the 10th forms there are created forms specializing in English. Pupils of these forms study the second foreign language (French, German, Spanish) and some other subjects taught in English.

The admittance to lyceum is competitive.

In 2001 the administration of school-lyceum declared the admision of the pupils to:

• the 7th forms with advanced learning of definite subjects: 7M (Physics and Mathematics), 7P (History and Law), 7� (computer scince and economics);
• the 1st form specializing in foreign language (pupils are admited after finishing the preschool educational course from the 1st February till the 1st April 2001, tel. 47-94-82)
• the fifth forms with the advanced learning of English and other foreign language.
