School-lyceum №17 is a school of perfect past and interesting future.

It was built and opened in 1957. In November 1998 the school celebrated its 40th anniversary in Palace of Friendship. During this period 4500 students received the secondary education. Among them 334 students were awarded gold and silver medals.

The new 4-storeyed building was erected for 800 students' places in 1985.

Due to decision of Ministry of Education and Academy of Pedagogical Sciences in 1987 on the base of school a lyceum was opened for students of 7-11 forms with the profound study of physics, mathematics and English. Today the lyceum has its own history, traditions and great successes, which are the pride of the school, town and region.

The annual students successes in the regional and All-Ukrainian olympiad are the results of fruitful work.

61 students became the winners of the town olympiad in 1999/2000, 41 students – the winners of the regional olympiad, 8 students – the winners of the All-Ukrainian olympiad.

Nowadays more than 2644 students are studying in the school. There are 80 forms in the school including 13 forms in the lyceum (335 students).

For all-round development of students are equipped:

• 56 classrooms;
• 15 classrooms for junior pupils;
• 13 laboratories of lyceum;
• 4 workshops;
• 2 gymnasiums;
• 2 assembly halls;
• 2 computer laboratories;
• a library.

At school operate:

• socio-pedagogical service;
• dental cabinet;
• cabinet for logopedics;
• medical service cabinet;
• dining-room;
• sports ground;
• shooting-range.

The following pedagogical innovations are being worked out:

• scientific approaches to individual-directed technologies;
• ways of activistaion of the cognitive activities of the students of the 1st-3rd grades under conditions of without-mark developing studies;
• nation's self-determination through education and culture;
• individual work with students on developing creative abilities, within which the quantity of classes with profiled study has been enlarged since 2000-2001.

At school works highly-qualified pedagogical stuff:

• those awarded with the title "A prominent worker of education" - 24 persons;
• teachers having the highest degree - 50;
• teachers-methodists - 30;
• senior teachers - 11;
• teachers having the 1st degree - 49;
• teachers having the 2nd degree - 29;
• teachers-specialists - 25.

School functions: 7 a.m. till 20 p.m.
